Futures for Young Adults (FFYA) is a program funded by the Department of Human Services (DHS) which helps young people with disabilities move from school to a variety of adult training, education, day programs and employment options according to their interests and abilities. The objective of FFYA is to plan for the future so that participants have the best opportunity of realising their goals and aspirations and seamless transition to adult life
Bulleen Heights School has a FFYA coordinator to support students and parents in the transition from school to their chosen post school option.
Processes that are completed before a student leaves Bulleen Heights include:
- An information session held by DHS for parents and students
- Completion of a student needs assessment
- Completion of a student profile
- Visits to a variety of post school options
- Students’ trials of different post school services
- Negotiation of preferred option with service provider
- Transition with support to identified post school option
Parents and students are supported in the FFYA process throughout the year by the FFYA coordinator and staff within the school.
